This week, Natural Pod marked a significant milestone: our second anniversary as a Certified B Corporation, and we paused to reflect and celebrate this accolade with our team. Why, because while it feels great to be recognized as part of a global community that is driving positive impact- it offers a powerful moment for us to connect to our big “why.” 

What we choose to do isn’t easy. 

• We’re one of two education furniture companies in North America certified as a B Corp. 
• Our materials are ethically sourced—because we believe in transparency. 
• We consider our footprint each step of the way—to create less waste and to maximize quality and value. 
• We design and manufacture our beautiful, enduring solid wood products on the west coast of Canada—this supports the fair wages within our local community-that is also served by our learning furniture solutions. 

It’s not easy, but it matters to us and we know it matters to you.

We make these choices each and every day because we believe it is our responsibility to do business while reflecting the same sustainable principles that educators teach to our bright young minds and future world leaders.

The B Corp Journey: A Commitment to People and Planet

Becoming a B Corp in 2023 was a natural step for Natural Pod. After all, as our founder Bridgitte Alomes often shares, sustainability and purposeful impact have always been part of who we are.

That’s why, when we followed a rigorous certification process that required us to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency, the tasks aligned perfectly with our core values and mission. We emerged with a certification score of 92.9 which we’re committed to improving because it allows us to have  a positive impact on both people and the planet.

Says Alomes, “It’s been part of our DNA from inception, it was never an afterthought! Being a B Corp for me and being an outlier in the furniture education K-12 industry, really speaks volumes to who we are. We’re small but we’re mighty and making a commitment to do this work even though it has been arduous. I’m not surprised that we hit the (certification) scale mark off the charts because we’ve always thought that way from the very beginning.

Why? Because, I always wanted to always think about how we can do things better,  how we can share that roadmap, and how we can have impact. Because it does really matter when you’re affecting someone’s life at the end of that journey and for us, it’s about the children whose lives we inspire each and every day through our work, to witness the impact of that.”

Over the past two years, we’ve made significant strides in our B Corp journey:

• Ethical Manufacturing: We’ve continued to prioritize fair labor practices and safe working conditions throughout our supply chain.
• Community Engagement: We’ve deepened our engagement with local communities through our work with impact organizations in the USA and Canada.
• Employee Well-being: We’ve invested in our employees’ well-being through comprehensive benefits, professional development opportunities, and a supportive wellness-oriented workplace culture.

Looking Ahead: A Future of Purpose-Driven Growth

As we celebrate this anniversary, we’re also looking ahead to the future and we’re committed more than ever to continue our journey of purpose-driven growth, using our business as a force for good.
