Tiny Scholars is Bridging the Gap Between Generations
An inspiring new playschool has opened inside the Amenida Seniors Community in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada creating a unique intergenerational program that connects children with seniors.
Developed to foster connection and a sense of community, the Tiny Scholars Playschool environment is intentionally designed to support deep learning and relationships. At the heart of this space is Natural Pod’s own sustainable, nature-inspired, and flexible furniture.
Crafted from natural, LEED accredited FSC®-certified birch plywood, the furniture elements create a calming and safe environment that allows children to learn through play. The intentional, multi-functional design of the pieces also supports flexible layouts, naturally allowing different room configurations that brings generations together for shared activities and helping to deepen the bonds between the community’s youngest and oldest members.
I have been delegated as the Interim Playschool Director at Newton since the end of July, and most importantly, I’ve also been an Educator in the classrooms with the privilege of first-hand experience using Natural Pod’s pieces.
Let me tell you, it truly feels like a dream to have such beautiful, safe, and functional furniture as the foundational elements supporting our play explorations. Natural Pod pieces are the perfect vessel to hold all the wonder and magic that the children bring into the classrooms. It is truly their classroom, with the Educators and the furniture there to guide and inspire, while the children bring life and colour into it. I am so excited to see all our Educators and children play, explore, thrive, and grow alongside our Natural Pod pieces.

Multi-functional by Design
At Natural Pod, we’ve collaborated with educators since the beginning to create products that serve more than one use. Our sturdy Reach Tables can become a stage, Evergreen Shelving can be a seat, and our Share Benches can transform into a space for creativity. The impact we’ve seen is that learning environments can use fewer furniture pieces while still fostering collaboration, curiosity, and supporting educational outcomes. Learning that connects learners to one another, and to a more empowered sense of themselves.
We’re delighted to see Tiny Scholars embracing this approach with their community building playschool, and are looking forward to seeing how their space evolves.
